"Peaches is a wonderful companion, but extremely strong willed! We had the good fortune to end up at Northern Tails Dog Training. Right from the start, Lisa displayed a great affection for dogs. She really understands them and has keen insight into their behavior. Peaches is still a handful, but we now have much better control. I trust and respect Lisa. She consistently demonstrated an intelligent, friendly and steady approach to everyone, canine and human alike!"
~Jeff and Judy Lilly, Deer Park, WA

Lisa has been working with dogs for well over a decade.  Prior to becoming a professional dog trainer, she trained and "played" with a sled dog team of Siberian Huskies that included several "second hand" dogs. One of those dogs developed serious aggression issues, which led her to the Behavior Department of Tufts Vet School for a consultation. She then turned to Carol Byrnes, owner of Diamonds in the Ruff, for help implementing the behavior modification program outlined by the behaviorists at Tufts. Carol asked her if she would handle her aggression cases and the rest is history. Lisa loves learning about the canine mind and sharing her knowledge and experience with anyone who will listen.

Her experience includes:

  • Four years at SCRAPS (Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Services) as the first on-site dog trainer.
  • Training Director for F.I.D.O., which was the prison dog training program at Geiger Corrections Center in Spokane. As the Director of Training she was responsible for developing the teaching and training curriculum, and establishing selection criteria for the dogs. Unfortunately, the program came to an abrupt end after 18 months when Geiger ended its contract with the Bureau of Prisons to house Federal Inmates. Several of the inmates involved in the program are now out of prison and working in dog-related jobs.
  • Teaching with the excellent trainers at Diamonds in the Ruff, in Spokane, WA
  • Seven years working with thousands of dogs in group classes, private training environments and in board and train programs.
  • Continuing education workshops and seminars with some of the most well-respected trainers in the Country - Steve White, Trish King, Sarah Wilson, Kathy Sdao, Pia Silvani, Dr. Patricia McConnell, Dr. Ian Dunbar, Brenda Aloff, Donna Duford - among others.

Lisa Shares her home with one Siberian Husky and a Belgian Sheepdog.  She ran a recreational sled dog team of five Siberians for eight years, which she retired in 2003.  Her proudest achievement with the team was adopting an abused dog from another musher who told her, "This dog will never amount to anything." The dog's name was Jasper and he became her most devoted and obedient lead dog.
