Who better to teach us about dogs than dogs
themselves? I am blessed. I get to work with them in the classroom, one-on-
one environments, in animal shelters and in my home. Every situation
presents a different perspective into dog behavior.
Back when I was green and living
with a handful of Siberian Huskies, dabbling in dog rescue, I thought I knew
everything. It's
true, the hundreds of hours I spent on the back of a dog sled in the mountains
with a bunch of opinionated huskies taught
me a lot about observing subtle nuances in behavior. But, that was only the
beginning.
There are significant
differences between working dogs, site hounds, scent hounds, retrievers,
herding dogs, guarding dogs, etc.
Add humans to the equation and things get interesting. Sometimes convoluted
and messy. Definitely more complicated.
However, over the years I've defined a common set of principles and tools
that bring nearly all dog training and
behavior situations under better control...and that is what I bring to you
in Recipe for a Calm Dog.
This booklet is the cornerstone of all my training and behavior modification
work. It has technical "how-to" information plus examples of how to apply it
in real
life. It includes basic training tips along
with intuitive wisdom.
My Recipe for a Calm Dog is both effective and do-able for the average busy
family. You will see improvement in your dog's behavior by working with
just a few
of the ingredients. Using the entire recipe
will result in a dog that will be the envy of your social circle. Trust me.
"I have to begin by saying that I don't
expect all that much from dog training and behavior books these days. Partially
because I've been training for so long,
it's not all that easy to come across books
that "wow" me. And partially because the current quality of training books in
general far too often leaves much
to be desired, in the information
presented, the experience and knowledge of the trainer, not to mention the
writing itself! Now, I admit, I was expecting a good
book from Lisa. But honestly, not this
good! These 31 pages are packed with experience, wisdom, humor, and plain good
sense. I read it and I laughed out
loud; I chuckled warmly; I simply
thoroughly enjoyed myself - all the while absorbing Lisa's wonderful, wonderful
advice on how to have a calm dog! Lisa's
'recipe' is no gimmick - it is true good dog
training advice - cleanly, clearly, and engagingly presented.
owners with the 'ingredients' to succeed,
it lights a spark of excitement for the tremendous possibilities that can come
from having a well-trained dog.
I highly recommend it!"
